State Archaeology

The Office of State Archaeology examines and preserves remains of the material culture of the state.  The office coordinates and implements a statewide program of prehistoric, historic, and underwater archaeology through field investigations.   The office surveys statewide archeological resources, and also issues permits to individuals and groups for operations and salvage of terrestrial and underwater properties in North Carolina.
