RALEIGH – Music and an interview with North Carolina Symphony harpist Anita Burroughs-Price, winner of the Silver Angel Award for her recent CD “Healing Touch,” is featured on the latest N.C. Department of Cultural Resources podcast at www.ncculture.com. Cultural Resources launched its podcast service, which contains free, downloadable audio files containing news and information about North Carolina’s performing arts, literature and history, in 2005.
The interview with Burroughs-Price, as well as music played by Irish musicians Patrick and Cathy Sky, ties in with “N.C. In Tune,” a yearlong statewide celebration that highlights music and its contributions to the cultural life of the state.
The podcast also features excerpts of a performance by musician Scott Ainslie in honor of “Music in Our Schools Month,” celebrated each year in March. Ainslie, a nationally known blues scholar and performer, has taught workshops for many years in North Carolina schools.
NCCulture.com provides visitors directions on how to retrieve DCR podcasts, which broadcast interviews, up-to-date events information, plus traveler guides to historic sites and museums. Future podcasts also will offer virtual behind-the-scenes tours of DCR archive collections, museum exhibits, libraries and historic sites.
The word podcast is a combination of “broadcasting” and “iPod,” a popular brand of MP3 player. Audio files in a podcast go directly to users’ computers, to then transfer to an MP3 or other audio player software.
