2023 NC Literary and Historical Association Awards Ceremony

Dear Fellow Lit and Hist Member,

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association, I am pleased and excited to enclose for you the program for Lit and Hist’s 2023 Awards Ceremony, to be held starting at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 8th in the auditorium in the Archives & History/State Library Building, located at 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Public pay parking can be found directly across the street from the Archives & History/State Library Building, with limited free parking on a few adjacent streets nearby.

This year’s event will recognize and celebrate the winners of the annual Lit and Hist book awards — the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction, the Ragan Old North State Award for Nonfiction, the Roanoke-Chowan Award for Poetry, and the AAUW NC Young People’s Literature Award — as well as achievement awards presented to individuals or entities recognized for their excellence in the fields of North Carolina history and the arts, the Christopher Crittenden Memorial Award and the Hardee Rives Award for the Dramatic Arts, respectively.

The awards ceremony is open to the public and free of charge. If you do plan to attend, however, please RSVP to Lit and Hist’s Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Parker Backstrom, by no later than end of business on Tuesday, December 5th. He can be reached at parker.backstrom@dncr.nc.gov or 919-814-6640. Please note that facemasks are encouraged for those who wish to wear them but will not be mandated. This year’s event will also be livestreamed on YouTube. For those unable to attend, you can view the proceedings here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQXfM5q9Wcs&ab_channel=N.C.DepartmentofNaturalandCulturalResources .

In connection with the business meeting portion of the program, during which members in attendance will vote to approve nominees who wish to fill upcoming vacancies on the Lit and Hist executive board and endowment trust, an online ballot will be accessible at: https://form.jotform.com/nc.dncr.web/nchla-executive-committe-ballot. Even if not attending in person, I encourage you to participate in this process when this link goes live at the end of business on Tuesday, December 5th.

Thank you so much for your continuing membership in and support of Lit and Hist, North Carolina’s oldest open membership statewide cultural organization, now in its 123rd year!

Sincerely,

Michele Tracy Berger

President
