G. Neel LattimoreDirector of Communications

Lattimore is a native of Shelby and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill.

He has spent the majority of his career in Washington, D.C., specializing in strategic communications. While in D.C. he worked in the executive branch at the White House as press secretary to then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

He has also worked for universities (Georgetown University and UNC-Chapel Hill), for non-profits (the Children’s Defense Fund, Corporate Council on Africa, Media Matters for America, the International AIDS Trust and the National Trust for Historic Preservation), for foundations (the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Clinton Foundation) and in corporate public relations (Webber Shanwich International and the Kamber Group).

He returned to North Carolina several years ago for family reasons. His mother still lives in Shelby.

“I am personally passionate about the arts and what they do to make a difference in our everyday lives,” Lattimore said. “The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is the custodian of these amazing treasures, and I am privileged to be working here.”
