Public records are one of the most important assets that are state has. They document how our government works, tell the history of our state and ensure that all of our rights are protected. Sec. Susan Kluttz got the chance to address municipal and county clerks–the people who do the “heavy lifting” to make sure that those records are managed properly—at a recent meeting.
Speaking a training session hosted by the UNC School of Government, the secretary emphasized the important job that clerks do and noted how much she appreciated the work of clerks when she was mayor of Salisbury. She also gave a well-received overview of what DCR does with an emphasis on our 27 historic sites and the role they play in their communities and in telling a statewide story of North Carolina history. State Archivist Sarah Koonts and her team also reminded everyone that Cultural Resources is here to help in whole host of ways through the Archives’ Government Records Branch.
