Historic Halifax Independence Day Celebration

Historic Halifax was an important location in the Revolution, so celebrating in this historic site has special ties to the holiday. Events planned include musket firing, living-history demonstrations, and a special reading of the Declaration of Independence. Continue the fun that afternoon, with the Town of Halifax’s Independence Day celebration at the county courthouse complex and enjoy the annual fireworks display, at dark on the courthouse lawn.

The day will host a ceremony that includes a reading from the Declaration of Independence and a wreath laying at the George Washington monument by the Sons of the American Revolution. Raleigh Concert Band will perform. Bring your chairs and a picnic lunch! The ceremony begins outdoors at noon. And to celebrate America’s independence, the Capitol will have birthday cupcakes for visitors at 1 p.m., for as long as supplies last. The Capitol will be open for self-guided tours from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Call (919) 733-4994 for more information.
