National History Day in North Carolina

N.C. History Day is an affiliate of the National History Day program and designed to promote an interest in history among students through hands-on discovery. The program helps students develop skills in historical research, analysis, critical thinking, organization and presentation, as well as improve overall reading and writing skills. Students use these skills to design an exhibit, write a paper, produce a documentary, create a performance, or develop website to present their selected topic's history.  Topics can focus on local, national, or world history and can range from ancient to more contemporary history.

An optional part of the National History Day program is competing with their project.  Students start at a regional level contest and can then qualify for contests at the state and national levels. At each level of competition, judges review the student's work and provide constructive feedback. Students are then encouraged to revise their projects between each stage of the competition.
