Veterans Day with Nature and Culture

Spend this Veterans Day experiencing art, history and nature at the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources attractions. Most state historic sites are closed, but all state parks are open. The three aquariums are open, and offer free admission to all on Veterans Day. To salute veterans and their families, the North Carolina Museum of Art and Tryon Palace will offer free admission to veterans and active military with ID. Some free or low-cost activity will be waiting for you all across the state. Many fee-based venues offer reduced admissions for active duty military and veterans.

East

N.C. Maritime Museum, Beaufort. Open and free to all.

N.C. Maritime Museum, Southport. Closed Nov. 10 only. Gift shop will offer 10% discounts on Nov. 11. Free.

Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City. Closed Nov. 10, regular hours Saturday and Sunday. Special display of crosses memorializing Albemarle area soldiers who died in WWI. Free.

Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras. Closed Nov. 10, regular hours Saturday and Sunday. Free.

Roanoke Island Festival Park, Manteo. Closed Nov. 10, usual hours the remainder of the weekend.

Tryon Palace, New Bern. Free admission to active duty military and families on Nov. 11.

Battleship North Carolina, Wilmington. Open with usual operations.

N.C. Aquariums at Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores, Fort Fisher. All aquariums will offer free admission to all visitors on Veterans Day. Each is collecting food donations for local agencies. Throughout the year, aquariums offer discounts to active duty and retired military.

Piedmont

Museum of the Cape Fear, Fayetteville. Open with usual operations. Free.

N.C. Museum of History, Raleigh. Open with usual operations. Free.

N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh. Open with usual operations. Free.

N.C. Museum of Art, Raleigh. For Veteran’s Day, all veteran and active duty military and their immediate family will receive free admission to the Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair exhibit. Both buildings will be open. Other exhibits free. A Blue Star Military Family museum

Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem. Closed Nov. 10, open regular hours Saturday and Sunday. Free.

N. C. Zoo, Asheboro. Free admission to military Nov. 10-12, $2 discounts for family up to six.

West

N.C. Transportation Museum, Spencer. Open Nov. 10 and weekend. Veterans will receive free admission on Nov. 11, immediate family will receive a discount.

Mountain Gateway Museum, Old Fort. Closed Nov. 10, open through the weekend. Starting point of a “Fort to Flag Walk” Nov. 11, organized by an area civic group. Free.

Statewide

N.C. State Parks. From the mountains to the coast, 39 state parks and recreation areas will be open as usual and are free.
