Enjoy Veterans Day at Natural and Cultural Attractions

Experience some of the great things about North Carolina this Veterans Day at attractions within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Most state historic sites are closed but all state parks are open, and of course are free. Free or discounted admission is available at most venues that normally charge an admission fee, and there will be family friendly activities all across the state.

East

N.C. Maritime Museum, Beaufort. Open to all. Gift shop will offer military discount of 20 percent Nov. 10-12. Free.

N.C. Maritime Museum, Southport. Closed Nov. 12 only. Gift shop will offer 10 percent military discounts Nov. 11-17. Free.

Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City. Closed Nov. 11-12. Special display of crosses memorializing Albemarle area soldiers who died in WWI. Free.

Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras. Closed Nov. 12, usual hours the rest of the week.

Roanoke Island Festival Park, Manteo. Open usual hours including Veterans Day. Military $1 discount all year.

Tryon Palace, New Bern. Nov. 12 free admission to active duty military and dependents, including minor children.

Museum of the Cape Fear, Fayetteville. Open with usual programs Nov. 11, closed Nov. 12. Free.

Battleship North Carolina, Wilmington. Open with usual operations, regular prices.

N.C. Aquariums at Roanoke Island. Free admission to all Nov. 11 and collecting food donations for local food pantry. Discounted admissions offered to active duty and retired military throughout the year.
 

Piedmont

N.C. Museum of History, Raleigh. Open with usual operations. Free.

N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh. Open with usual operations. Free.

N.C. Museum of Art, Raleigh. Open Nov. 10-11, closed Nov. 12. A military discount with ID is available to the current exhibitions The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art and Candida Höfer in Mexico.

Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem. Open regular hours Nov. 11, closed Nov. 12. Free. 

N.C. Zoo, Asheboro.  Free admission to military Nov. 10 -16; $2 discount for family up to six members.
 

West

N.C. Transportation Museum, Spencer. Open Nov. 11-12. Veterans will receive free admission and train ride with military ID. Families with veterans will receive discounts.

Mountain Gateway Museum, Old Fort. Closed Nov. 12, open through the weekend. Starting point of a “Fort to Flag Walk” Nov. 10, sponsored by Paws-Effect. Accepting donations for Wounded Warriors throughout November. Free.
 

Statewide

N.C. State Parks. From the mountains to the coast, 41 state parks, natural areas and recreation areas will be open as usual and are free.
