N.C. Historical Commission and N.C. African American Heritage Commission Hold Historic Joint Meeting on State Capitol African American Monument

Yesterday, at a historic first joint meeting at the North Carolina State Capitol, the N.C. Historical Commission and the N.C. African American Heritage Commission accepted a draft report summarizing the comments received at eight public hearings held to gather input on plans for a new monument on the State Capitol grounds in Raleigh dedicated to commemorating the achievements of African Americans.

Seven to Receive the North Carolina Award, State's Highest Honor

The state's highest civilian honor, the North Carolina Award, will be presented to seven distinguished North Carolinians Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Raleigh Marriott City Center. Governor Pat McCrory will present the awards at the 7 p.m. banquet and ceremony, following a reception for the recipients at 6 p.m.

Original Blockade Runner Museum Dioramas Return Home to Carolina Beach

After more than 30 years in storage, four small hand-crafted dioramas from the famous Blockade Runner Museum have come home to Carolina Beach thanks to a partnership between the Friends of Fort Fisher, Inc., Town of Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher State Historic Site.
