The beauty and fragrance of natural greenery in holiday decorations will greet visitors to the 26th Annual Christmas Open House at Somerset Place Dec. 6, 1-4 p.m. Costumed historic interpreters will further entice guests with a sampling of old-fashioned black-eyed peas cooked over an open fire. Hearth-cooked "Somerset cornbread" will add to the medley of seasonal aromas and delights. A variety of homemade holiday sweets and spiced hot tea will be available.

For younger audiences, jolly Saint Nicholas will appear in the Collins House 2-4 p.m. The CollinsHouse and other site buildings will be open for self-guided tours. The free program will capture the spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas. Donations are welcome.

For additional information, please call (252) 797-4560. Somerset Place is part of the Division of State Historic Sites within the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The site offers a realistic view of 19th century life on a large plantation.
