5. Goose Creek State Park

The eight miles of trails at Goose Creek State Park lead visitors through a broad range of coastal experiences. Live oaks draped in Spanish moss, wetlands along the Pamlico Sound and a cypress swamp viewed from an extensive boardwalk. A visitor and environmental education center explains it all with detailed exhibits. Getting into or onto the waters of the sound is easy at a sandy swim beach, a boat ramp or a separate paddling launch. A small tent-oriented campground offers solitude, even though the park is just a short drive from the historic towns of Bath and Washington, N.C.

4. JENNETTE’S PIER

North Carolina is home to four aquariums! Explore Jennette’s Pier for interactive science exhibits and learn about renewable energy. Our full service Pier shop offers tackle, beach supplies, unique gifts, cold drinks, hot coffee and snacks. Come see why Jennette's Pier has been a family favorite for more than 75 years.

3. BATTLESHIP NORTH CAROLINA

Experience an adventure your family will never forget. Located in downtown Wilmington, the Battleship North Carolina beckons visitors to walk her decks and envision daily life as well as fierce combat that her crew faced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Young men travelled from all across the United States to serve their country. These are the stories you will encounter through their oral histories, uniforms, and mementos as you explore the ship and its exhibits.

2. FORT MACON STATE PARK

Fort Macon State Park has multiple personalities as the site of a perfectly restored Civil War-era fort, a museum-quality coastal education center and an unspoiled shoreline for swimming, surf fishing and beachcombing. Attractions include cannon and musket demonstrations and guided tours. Extensive exhibits indoors and out. A bathhouse and handicapped-accessible beachside areas complete the recreational fare. This is sure to be fun for the whole family.

1. HAMMOCKS BEACH STATE PARK

Cool off this summer at the crown jewel of North Carolina’s coast. Hammocks Beach is a three-mile-long, undeveloped barrier island accessible by the park’s passenger ferry, private ferry or by paddling a canoe or kayak.  Interpretive programs and extensive exhibits teach about park ecology and wildlife including endangered sea turtles and nesting shorebirds.
