Master Plan Finalized for Hammocks Beach State Park

The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation has approved a master plan for the mainland portion of Hammocks Beach State Park in Onslow County. Friends of Hammocks Beach and Bear Island (FHBI), N.C. African American Heritage Commission, conservation groups, Onslow county staff, local businesses, and neighborhood associations participated in developing the plan.

New Public Meeting Scheduled for State Park Study on Black River

The state of North Carolina is seeking feedback on a feasibility study evaluating the suitability of a state park on the Black River in parts of Sampson, Bladen and Pender counties. During the 2017 legislative session, the N.C. General Assembly directed the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation to conduct the study and report results to the Legislative Oversight Committee on Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources by March 1, 2018.

Join in the NC State Parks 100-Mile Challenge

North Carolina State Parks challenges all residents and visitors to join the 100-Mile Challenge, a health and wellness program that encourages citizens to complete 100 miles of hiking, biking, walking, running, paddling, skating, rolling their wheelchairs or riding their horses within the state.

Campfire ban in effect at western North Carolina State Parks

Due to an extremely high risk of wildfire, 14 state parks in western North Carolina have placed temporary bans on campfires, according to North Carolina State Parks. Restrictions on campfires and cooking fires could be expanded to other parks on short notice, depending on local conditions.
