Pianist Celebrates American Music at State Capitol

Pianist Lara Downes will perform and Alexander Bernstein narrate in a program in tribute to his father, acclaimed composer Leonard Bernstein, Monday, Sept. 18, at the State Capitol. It’s a celebration of American music and its importance to understanding history, and the 50thanniversary of the North Carolina Arts Council.

The North Carolina Symphony, under the direction of Music Director Grant Llewellyn, performs the famous “Choral” Symphony this month with the North Carolina Master Chorale and stellar vocal soloists Rebecca Evans, Paula Murrihy, Anthony Dean Griffey, and Reginald Smith, Jr. Four performances will take place in Raleigh and Wilmington, April 20 through 23.
