The monthly Tryon Palace African American Heritage Tour will explore more than 20 historic locations around downtown New Bern at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17.

Many of New Bern's houses and public buildings were built by African-American craftsmen, while the city was also home to some of the oldest African-American congregations in the Southeast. The walking tour will explore these historic locations around Tryon Palace and downtown New Bern.

The Tryon Palace African American Heritage Tour will be offered on the third Sunday of each month through November. Tours begin at the Waystation, located on the corner of George and Pollock streets, at 2 p.m. Tickets are included with the purchase of a One Day Pass, or may be purchased separately at a cost of $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Admission is free for Tryon Palace Foundation members.
