“The response from filmmakers and film fans was immense for the first Longleaf Film Festival,” said Sally Bloom, Festival Co-Organizer. “This event is a great opportunity to showcase films with perspectives from around the world, and the North Carolina Museum of History is a fitting place for this storytelling.”

The 2016 Longleaf Film Festival will explore historic and contemporary stories from the state, the country, and the world through narrative and documentary movies. All winning entries will be shown at the festival, and prizes will be awarded.

All festival submissions will be eligible for the $500 Judges’ Choice award, and all films made in North Carolina are eligible for the $500 Made-in-NC award. Each film entered in the middle and high school student category is eligible for the $500 Best Student-Made Film.     Additional prizes will be awarded in the festival’s five main categories.

“We welcome filmmakers and film topics from all over, but we’ll hold a special place in our hearts for North Carolina connections — films made in North Carolina and films made by those with special ties to the Tar Heel State,” noted Bloom.
