Sandi Macdonald, President & CEO of the North Carolina Symphony, announced today the appointment of Elizabeth (Lisa) Ransom to the position of Vice President of Philanthropy.

As Vice President of Philanthropy of the North Carolina Symphony, Ms. Ransom will manage the Philanthropy Department, leading fundraising for the institution and serving as a primary liaison between fundraising staff and the Boards of Trustees of the North Carolina Symphony Society and the North Carolina Symphony Foundation.

In making the appointment, Ms. Macdonald said, “I am delighted to welcome Ms. Ransom to this key leadership position within the Symphony. Along with her previous experience as the Symphony’s Assistant Vice President of Philanthropy for Principal Gifts, Lisa has the unique perspective of having performed with orchestras across the state, including the North Carolina Symphony as a substitute musician. This invaluable experience, coupled with her fundraising and management experience make her the right person to lead our fundraising efforts.”

Before joining the Symphony, Ms. Ransom served as Major Gifts Officer for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.  Other work in the field includes positions at the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Carolina Summer Music Festival.

Ms. Ransom received a Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and pursued graduate study in Flute at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Hamburg, Germany, as a Fulbright grantee.  She studied not-for-profit management and fundraising at Salem College and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

"I am so very excited to expand my responsibilities at the North Carolina Symphony, and I look forward to continuing to work with our trustees, symphony staff, musicians, and supporters throughout North Carolina,” said Ms. Ransom. "The Symphony’s dual mission of statewide service and music education impacts our citizens with every performance and engagement event, and it is an honor to support this important institution as we share that story.”

The appointment of Ms. Ransom was supported by a search committee led by Ms. Macdonald and comprised of Chair of the Society Board, Don Davis, Vice Chair Mary Susan Fulghum, Executive Committee members Martin Brinkley, Dick Daugherty and Philip Cave, Society Trustee Emily Mann Peck and Foundation President Ed Coman, as well as the senior administrative staff at the Symphony.
