The trinity of plants represented in Rooted in The Blue Ridge Mountains consists of ginseng, echinacea, and tobacco. The mural seeks to commemorate the wild and the cultivated, and three important plants utilized in medicine, ritual and ceremony in Western North Carolina. Echinacea is tolerant and loved by pollinators. Ginseng has been used medicinally for centuries. It is a powerful antioxidant, with many proven health benefits. Lastly, tobacco is a past and present cash crop that has both healthy and unhealthy properties. All three plants have strong roots in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
